If you've been missing the classic days of Digimon, this weekend is a good one to be a fan. Toei Animation's Digimon: The Best Adventure We Chose (Japanese: Bokura ga Eranda Best Adventure; released globally as Digimon: World's Best Picks) premieres tomorrow, Sunday, October 4, on Fuji TV and its affiliated stations in Japan, airing weekly at 9:00 AM JST.
The special is part of the Digimon 30th Anniversary Project — Digimon turns 30 in 2027 — and the idea is simple and fanservice-y in the best way. A worldwide poll called the "Best Episodes of 4 Digimon Anime Series" let fans across the globe vote for their favorite episodes from the first four anime: Digimon Adventure, Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers, and Digimon Frontier. The top eleven episodes of each series, announced on August 1 (Digimon Day), are being shown again in HD remastered form.
Up first are Digimon Adventure and Digimon Tamers — fitting, since Tamers is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The Adventure episodes are being produced for the program under the supervision of series director Hiroyuki Kakudō, who helmed the original show in 1999. Air dates for the Adventure 02 and Frontier picks have yet to be announced.
The lineup so far: Adventure episode 54 "The Fate of Two Worlds" took first place in its poll, while Tamers' beloved episode 43, "Beelzemon's Big Day," topped its category.
This is also a celebration of Digimon's music. The program debuts a brand-new opening theme, "SHAKARIKI!!", and ending theme, "Limitless Dreams", from a team branded the "Digimon Legend Team": lyrics by Yamada Hiroshi, composition by Ōta Michihiko, and vocals by Miyazaki Ayumi and Tanimoto Takayoshi — two singers who've been part of Digimon songs for over 25 years.
There's a nice interactive touch, too. During the broadcast, fan posts on X/Twitter tagged #ベスアド along with an episode title can be read aloud on air — by Hiroaki Hirata for Adventure and Masako Nozawa for Tamers.
For fans, this is a warm lap around the series that started it all, timed for the countdown to Digimon's 30th anniversary in 2027 (reportedly also a lead-in to the next TV anime series, currently expected in 2027). Whether you vote, post a #ベスアド memory, or just settle in for old favorites in HD, Sunday morning is shaping up to be one for longtime Chosen Children.
