Bandai keeps turning anniversary crossovers into V-Pets, and its newest partner is one of the biggest names in tokusatsu. The freshly revealed Digital Monster COLOR ULTRAMAN SERIES 60th EDITION puts Ultraman in the spotlight, celebrating 60 years since the series first debuted in 1966. It's a limited run, it looks nothing like the Digimon versions, and it plays a little differently too. Let's dig in.
What you get
This is a Digital Monster COLOR through and through. That means the modern hardware: a built-in color LCD, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery charged over USB Type-C, and a background design you can change. It keeps the three-button shell inspired by the 1997 original — so it'll sit right at home next to the other COLOR models you might already own.
The difference is the shell art. There are two colorways, both with UV-printed design across the whole shell featuring Ultraman, Ultraman Tiga, and Ultraman Zero:
- ULTRAMAN HENSHIN COLOR, inspired by Ultraman's transformation scene
- GRAFFITI ULTRAHEROES COLOR, decked out in pixel-art and graffiti-style designs
Same software either way, so pick whichever shell speaks to you.
Here's the twist: Digimon are the bad guys
This is where the Ultraman Edition stands apart from every other COLOR crossover. The roster has over 40 characters to raise, drawn from Ultraman and the Ultra Monsters (the kaiju). But Digimon themselves don't show up as partners this time — instead, they appear only as enemies to battle. You play an Ultraman or Ultra-Monster route rather than a Digimon one.
It's a fun flip of the formula, and honestly a bit of a surprise. Even the other crossover Colors keep Digimon front and center; here the franchise steps aside and lets the guest star take the lead.
Pricing and release
Reservations were open at Premium Bandai Japan from 5 August to 6 September 2026, at 7,700 yen (tax included) each. Units are reported to ship in February 2027, and the target age is 15+. As always, this is a limited reservation window in Japan — pricing, dates, and availability are as reported and may shift, and we don't have word on any release outside Japan.
Why it matters
This continues a clear pattern. The Digital Monster COLOR line has been leaning on anniversary crossovers hard — the Godzilla 70th edition landed in 2025, and the Godzilla Pendulum Color followed in 2026. The Ultraman Edition slots right into that run, and it pairs naturally with another marker: it's compatible only with the Ultraman 60th Edition, the Digital Monster COLOR series, and the Digimon Pendulum COLOR series.
For a hub that lives on the crossover side of the fandom, this is a genuinely notable one — a beloved guest franchise given the starring role, at a clean anniversary price point. It's worth watching if you've enjoyed the Godzilla crossovers or just want a V-Pet that plays differently from the Digimon mainline.
